Target Information

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key regulator of blood vessel development in embryos and angiogenesis in adult tissues.
Unlike VEGF, VEGFC stimulates lymphatic vessel growth through its specific lymphatic endothelial receptor VEGFR-3.
Inactivation of the VEGFR-3 gene in mice causes defective blood vessel development in early embryos, resulting in abnormal vessel organization and cardiovascular failure at embryonic day 9.5.
Thus, VEGFR3 plays an essential role in embryonic cardiovascular development before lymphatic vessel formation.
