Target Information
Prohibitin is an evolutionarily conserved protein expressed ubiquitously. It is considered a negative regulator of cell proliferation and may act as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in the PHB gene have been associated with sporadic breast cancer.
Two transcript variants with different 3′ untranslated regions exist; the longer transcript is more abundant in proliferating tissues and cells, suggesting a regulatory role.
