Target Information
Calpastatin is an endogenous inhibitor of calpain, a calcium-dependent cysteine protease. It consists of an N-terminal domain L and four repetitive calpain-inhibition domains (domains 1–4). Calpastatin is involved in proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein and various membrane fusion events such as neural vesicle exocytosis, platelet, and red-cell aggregation. It may also influence expression levels of structural or regulatory proteins.
