Target Information
KLF15 is a nuclear protein belonging to the Sp1 C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family with three C2H2-type zinc fingers. It functions as a transcriptional activator binding to the GA element of the CLCNKA promoter, regulating tissue- and nephron-specific expression of CLCNKA and CLCNKB channel genes. KLF15 plays a key role in adipogenesis via regulation of PPARG expression and acts as an inhibitor of cardiac hypertrophy. It also regulates mitochondrial acetyl-CoA synthase expression in skeletal muscle and may repress photoreceptor-specific gene expression in nonphotoreceptor cells. Expression is high in liver, followed by heart, skeletal muscle, and kidney, but absent in bone marrow or lymphoid tissues.
