Target Information

E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin protein belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.
Mutations in the CDH1 gene, which encodes E-cadherin, are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of E-cadherin function is linked to increased tumor proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
E-cadherin also mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells through its ectodomain, while the cytoplasmic domain is essential for internalization. The protein plays a central role in maintaining tissue architecture and integrity. In humans, the CDH1 gene is located on chromosome 16.
