Target Information
Somatostatin is a multifunctional protein involved in endocrine and exocrine secretion, neurotransmission, neuronal modulation, and regulation of cell proliferation. These functions are mediated through the somatostatin receptor family, which includes six known receptor subtypes.
SSTR5, a 364 amino acid GPCR protein, is predominantly expressed in the pituitary and hypothalamus. It contains seven transmembrane regions and can form homodimers and heterodimers with SSTR1. SSTR5 complements SSTR2 in regulating ACTH secretion. Polymorphisms in the SSTR5 gene have been observed in patients with acromegaly.
