Interleukin 8 (IL-8, CXCL8)은 72개의 아미노산으로 구성된 염증성 인자로, CXC 케모카인 하위군에 속하며 IL-8RA 및 IL-8RB 수용체에 결합합니다.
IL-8은 케모택틱 및 혈관신생 활성因자로 작용하며, 대식세포 및 내피세포를 포함한 다양한 세포에서 염증 자극에 의해 발현 및 분비됩니다.
내피세포에서는 Weibel-Palade 소체에 저장되어 있으며, CXCR1 및 CXCR2 수용체를 통해 신호 전달합니다.
기존 명칭으로는 NAP-1, GCP-1, MONAP, protein 3-10C 등이 있으며, IL-8 유전자군은 염색체 4q 영역에 위치합니다.
