Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved into the active 17 kDa form upon inflammasome activation. IL-1β signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α, and its activity can be moderated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA). It plays a crucial role in innate immune defense, triggering proinflammatory cytokine production and acute-phase responses. Elevated IL-1β levels are associated with chronic inflammatory conditions, and IL-1β neutralizing antibodies have potential therapeutic value.
