Mature mouse IL-6 was expressed in Pichia pastoris X-33 (GenBank Accession # NP_112445, amino acids 25–211).
For protein verification, the expressed protein was N-terminal sequenced and begins with the following 10 amino acids: FPTSQVRRGD.
Purity is >95% by SDS-PAGE analysis.

Use: For in vitro applications. A dose-response assay should be performed to determine the optimal concentration for specific experiments.

Reconstitution and Dilution:

• Store lyophilized material at 4°C.
• Reconstitute in 0.5 mL of distilled or deionized water.
• Dilute in a buffer containing carrier protein, aliquot, and store at or below -70°C, avoiding multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
• PBS with 1% BSA or a neutral medium containing <10% FCS are suitable buffers.

Target Information

IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. The protein acts as an endogenous pyrogen, inducing fever in autoimmune or infectious conditions.
It is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into the serum, and mediates transcriptional inflammatory responses via the interleukin-6 receptor alpha.
IL-6 is implicated in various inflammation-related diseases, including susceptibility to diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Elevated IL-6 levels have been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 (caused by SARS-CoV-2).
Diseases associated with IL-6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.
