Target Information
CAMK4 (CaMKIV) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that phosphorylates CREB, oncoprotein 18, and SRF. It has limited tissue distribution and is implicated in transcriptional regulation in lymphocytes, neurons, and male germ cells. The nuclear localization of this protein supports its role in calcium-dependent gene expression. CaMKIV is abundant in testis, T-cells, and neurons, and also present in other tissues. In neurons, it contributes to synaptic plasticity; in T-cells, it mediates calcium signaling affecting NFAT. CaMKIV and calspermin are encoded by the CaMKIV gene. In testes, CaMKIV associates with chromatin, suggesting a role in chromatin remodeling during spermatid nuclear condensation.
