Target Information

The NDUFS4 gene encodes an accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), also known as NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase. Complex I is the first multi-subunit enzyme complex of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and plays a crucial role in ATP production. It transfers electrons from NADH to ubiquinone through a series of redox reactions, generating a proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane that drives ATP synthesis. Complex I comprises at least 41 subunits, with 7 encoded by mitochondrial DNA and the remainder by nuclear genes.
