Target Information
Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved to the active 17 kDa form upon inflammasome activation. The active form is secreted via a non-classical pathway. IL-1β signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII, receptors shared with IL-1α, and its activity can be inhibited by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA). IL-1β is a key mediator in innate immunity and inflammation, and elevated levels are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases.
