Product Specific Information

MA1-980-HRP detects c-Myc protein and c-Myc tagged proteins.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures.
The immunogen corresponds to the synthetic peptide A(408)–A(438) of human c-Myc.


Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24.
It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a key role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.

Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is associated with regulation of cell proliferation and cycle control.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development.

Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags fused to either amino- or carboxy-termini of target proteins.
Amplification or translocation of the c-Myc gene has been found in several human tumors including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, as well as in Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative diseases.
