Target Information
Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK) is a 125 kDa non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase acting as a substrate for Src and a key element of integrin signaling. It plays a crucial role in cell spreading, differentiation, migration, cell death, and cell cycle progression. FAK localizes to focal adhesions—sites where cells attach to the extracellular matrix through integrin receptors. Tyrosine phosphorylation of FAK increases upon integrin engagement with fibronectin, promoting association with Grb2 and c-Src and activating ERK2 MAP kinase. Multiple transcript variants exist for the FAK gene, with three confirmed full-length isoforms.
