The human ASH2L gene encodes a 628 amino acid protein (ASH2L1, isoform 1) containing a nuclear localization signal and PHD finger motif, suggesting a role as a transcription regulator.
- Predicted molecular weight: 68.7 kDa
- Alternative splicing may produce isoforms at 60 kDa and 56.5 kDa
- Homology: 60% with Drosophila ash2, 90% with mouse ASH2L
- Expression: Predominantly in adult heart, testis, fetal lung, and liver
- Low expression in adult lung, liver, kidney, prostate, and leukocytes
- Associated with leukemia cell lines (K562, Hel, Dami)
- Differentiation inducers (e.g., phorbol ester, hemin) alter expression patterns, suggesting a role in hematopoiesis and leukemia
- ASH2L may interact with beta-tubulin and beta-catenin
