Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine receptor for interleukin 21 (IL21). It belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family and forms a heterodimeric receptor complex with the common gamma-chain, shared by IL2 and IL5 receptors. This receptor mediates IL21-induced growth signals, crucial for T cell, B cell, and NK cell proliferation and differentiation. Ligand binding activates downstream signaling molecules including JAK1, JAK3, STAT1, and STAT3. Knockout studies in mice suggest involvement in immunoglobulin regulation. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein are known.
