Product Specific Information
- Purified from rabbit serum by sequential epitope-specific chromatography.
- Contains enough material for 10 mini-blots.
- Negatively preadsorbed using a non-phosphopeptide to remove non-phosphorylated Tau-reactive antibodies.
- Final product generated by affinity chromatography using Tau peptide phosphorylated at threonine 212 (isoform Tau 441).
- Positive control for western analysis: recombinant human Tau +/- GSK-3β.
Target Information
Tau is a neuronal microtubule-associated protein primarily located on axons. It promotes tubulin polymerization and stabilizes microtubules.
- C-terminus binds axonal microtubules; N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components.
- Functions as a linker between cytoskeleton and membrane.
- Hyper-phosphorylated Tau forms paired helical filaments (PHF), a major component of neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer’s disease.
- Hyper-phosphorylation impairs microtubule binding, leading to neuronal degeneration.
- Phosphorylation by kinases: GSK-3β, PKA, cdk5, casein kinase II.
- Found in neurodegenerative diseases including Pick’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, corticobasal degeneration, and progressive supranuclear palsy.
