Target Information
The protein encoded by SC35 is a member of the serine/arginine (SR)-rich family of pre-mRNA splicing factors, which are components of the spliceosome. These proteins contain an RNA recognition motif (RRM) for RNA binding and an RS domain for protein interactions. The RS domain, rich in serine and arginine residues, facilitates interactions among SR splicing factors. SR proteins are critical for mRNA splicing, export from the nucleus, and translation. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein and one non-coding transcript variant have been identified for SC35, along with a pseudogene on chromosome 11.
