FOXP3 (Forkhead box protein 3)는 forkhead/winged-helix 전사 조절 인자 계열에 속하며, 포유류에서 높은 보존성을 가지는 전사 조절 단백질입니다.
정상적인 면역 항상성 유지에 필수적이며, CD25⁺ CD4⁺ 조절 T세포에서 안정적으로 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다.
FOXP3 유전자의 결함은 마우스에서 scurfy 표현형을 유발하며, 인간에서는 IPEX 증후군(면역 기능 이상, 다내분비병증, 장병증, X-연관 증후군)과 관련이 있습니다.
또한 FOXP3는 인간 유방암 및 대장암 세포에서 p53에 의해 DNA 손상 반응 시 발현이 조절됩니다.
