Target Information
AXIN1 is a cytoplasmic protein that contains a regulation of G-protein signaling (RGS) domain and a disheveled and axin (DIX) domain. It functions as a negative regulator of the WNT signaling pathway involved in embryonic axis formation. AXIN1 interacts with adenomatosis polyposis coli (APC), beta-catenin, and glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta to form a tetrameric complex that regulates beta-catenin stabilization. Mutations in the AXIN1 gene have been associated with various carcinomas, suggesting a tumor suppressor role.
