This antibody binds the human megakaryocyte-potentiating factor.
Target Information
Mesothelin was originally identified as a differentiation antigen of mesotheliomas, ovarian cystadenocarcinomas, and pancreatic adenocarcinomas. It is a GPI-anchored cell-surface glycoprotein predominantly secreted by mesothelial cells.
Although expressed at restricted levels in normal pleural, pericardial, and peritoneal mesothelial cells, aberrant expression occurs in various cancers including endometrioid uterine adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas of the esophagus, stomach, lung, and cervix.
Proteolytic cleavage of Mesothelin yields a soluble fragment known as megakaryocyte potentiating factor (MPF), which stimulates megakaryocyte colony-forming activity in murine bone marrow cultures. MPF may play roles in megakaryocyte proliferation, differentiation, and platelet production.
High expression levels of Mesothelin and MPF in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues suggest involvement in tumorigenesis, promoting tumor cell proliferation, migration, anchorage-independent growth, and metastasis.
