Product Specific Information

MA5-15316 targets PR in indirect ELISA, IHC, and WB applications and shows reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of PR expressed in E. coli.

Target Information

The progesterone receptor (PR) is a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. It mediates the physiological effects of progesterone, which is central to reproductive events such as the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy.

PR exists as two forms:

  • Form A (94 kDa)
  • Form B (120 kDa)
These arise from alternative translation initiation sites.

PR-B is the transcriptionally active form, responsible for activating genes involved in endometrial maintenance, pregnancy, and inhibition of ovulation.
PR-A differs from PR-B by a 165 amino acid deletion at the N-terminus, exposing a 140 amino acid inhibitory domain (ID) that represses steroid hormone transcriptional activity.

In its inactive state, PgR forms a multiprotein complex including heat shock proteins and immunophilins. Upon progesterone binding, conformational changes allow dimerization and binding to progesterone response elements (PRE), activating transcription.
A null mutation in the PGR gene leads to pleiotropic reproductive abnormalities.
