Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the translation repressor protein family. The protein interacts directly with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), a key component of the complex that recruits 40S ribosomal subunits to the 5′ end of mRNAs.
Binding of this protein to eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation.
Phosphorylation of this protein in response to signals such as UV irradiation and insulin signaling causes dissociation from eIF4E and activation of mRNA translation.
