Specificity: Recognises the murine CD8 cell surface antigen expressed by a subset of T lymphocytes. The antibody has been shown to show depleting activity in vivo.

Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family of receptors, playing an integral role in signal transduction and T cell differentiation and activation. CD8 is predominantly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer of CD8α and CD8β, functioning as a co-receptor with T cell receptor (TCR) for MHC class I molecules.
CD8α is essential for MHC-I binding and is also expressed as a homodimer on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells.
Ligation of MHC-I/peptide complexes triggers recruitment of Lck kinase, leading to lymphokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are crucial for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
