Target Information

The ASS1 gene encodes an enzyme catalyzing the penultimate step in the arginine biosynthetic pathway.
There are approximately 10–14 copies of this gene, including pseudogenes, scattered across the human genome.
The functional copy located on chromosome 9 is associated with citrullinemia when mutated.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
