Target Information
BEST3 belongs to the bestrophin family of anion channels, which includes BEST1 (mutated in vitelliform macular dystrophy, VMD) and other BEST1-like genes, BEST2 and BEST4.
Bestrophins are transmembrane proteins sharing a homology region rich in aromatic residues, including an invariant Arg-Phe-Pro (RFP) motif.
These genes exhibit a conserved structure with nearly identical exon sizes for the RFP-TM domain and highly conserved exon-intron boundaries.
Each bestrophin gene has a unique 3′ end of variable length.
