• Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
• Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

AFP (Alpha Fetoprotein) is a major plasma protein produced by the yolk sac, intestinal tract, and liver during fetal life.
AFP expression in adults is often associated with hepatoma or teratoma. Hereditary persistence of AFP may also occur without pathology.
AFP is considered the fetal counterpart of serum albumin, with AFP and albumin genes located tandemly on chromosome 4.
It exists in monomeric, dimeric, and trimeric forms, and binds copper, nickel, fatty acids, and bilirubin.
AFP levels in amniotic fluid are used to screen for spina bifida and anencephaly.
Elevated serum AFP is observed in hepatocellular carcinoma, teratoblastoma, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and germ cell neoplasms.
