• Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
• Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

AFP (Alpha Fetoprotein) is a major plasma protein produced by the yolk sac, intestinal tract, and liver during fetal development.
In adults, AFP expression is often associated with hepatoma or teratoma, though hereditary persistence may occur without pathology.
AFP is considered the fetal counterpart of serum albumin, with both genes located tandemly on chromosome 4.
It exists in monomeric, dimeric, and trimeric forms and can bind copper, nickel ions, fatty acids, and bilirubin.
AFP levels in amniotic fluid are used to screen for spina bifida and anencephaly.
Elevated serum AFP levels are found in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), teratoblastoma, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and germ cell neoplasms.
