Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature (RT).
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes.

Target Information

AFP (Alpha Fetoprotein) is a major plasma protein produced by the yolk sac, intestinal tract, and liver during fetal life.
In adults, AFP expression is often associated with hepatoma or teratoma, though hereditary persistence of AFP may occur without pathology.
AFP is considered the fetal counterpart of serum albumin, and both genes are tandemly located on chromosome 4.
AFP exists in monomeric, dimeric, and trimeric forms, and can bind copper ions, nickel ions, fatty acids, and bilirubin.
AFP levels in amniotic fluid are used to detect renal protein loss and screen for spina bifida or anencephaly.
Elevated serum AFP is observed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), teratoblastoma, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and germ cell neoplasms.
