Product Specific Information

This antibody detects upregulation of HIF-1 alpha in hypoxic samples.

Target Information

HIF1-alpha (HIF1A) is a subunit of HIF1, a transcription factor found in mammalian cells under reduced oxygen tension. HIF-1 is a heterodimer composed of alpha and beta subunits, both belonging to the basic-helix-loop-helix Per-aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator-Sim (PAS) family of transcription factors.
HIF1 regulates the adaptive response to hypoxia by activating transcription of more than 40 genes involved in oxygen delivery and metabolic adaptation, including erythropoietin, glucose transporters, glycolytic enzymes, and VEGF.
HIF1-alpha also modulates hypoxia-mediated apoptosis, cell proliferation, and tumor angiogenesis. It interacts with p53 and p300/CBP complexes, influencing hypoxia-responsive gene expression.
In humans, HIF1A is located on chromosome 14q and is implicated in diseases such as ischemia, cancer, pulmonary hypertension, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
