Target Information

Human MTM1 is a 603 amino-acid protein mutated in myotubular myopathy. The related protein hMTMR2 is associated with recessive Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy. Myotubularin functions as a lipid phosphatase acting on phosphatidylinositol 3-monophosphate and plays a role in PI 3-kinase pathway regulation and membrane trafficking. Wild-type myotubularin can dephosphorylate PI 3-P and PI 4-P in vitro, reducing PI 3-P levels by down-regulating PI 3-K activity and promoting PI 3-P degradation.
