Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an epitope on the second extracellular domain (EC2) of the CD9 antigen, a 24 kDa transmembrane protein expressed on platelets, monocytes, pre-B lymphocytes, granulocytes, and activated T lymphocytes.
Target Information
CD9 antigen is a glycoprotein expressed on developing B lymphocytes, platelets, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, stimulated T lymphocytes, neurons, and glial cells of the peripheral nervous system.
It belongs to the tetraspanin family, which spans the membrane four times. In pre-B cells and platelets, CD9 regulates activation and aggregation via association with integrin CD41/CD61 (GPIIb/GPIIIa).
CD9 is involved in cell motility, osteoclastogenesis, neurite outgrowth, myotube formation, sperm-egg fusion, and plays roles in cell attachment and proliferation. It is essential for MHC II molecule association on dendritic cells for effective T cell stimulation.
CD9 expression is linked to suppression of cancer cell motility and metastasis and is considered a metastasis suppressor in solid tumors.
