Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD9 antigen, a 24 kDa transmembrane protein expressed on platelets, monocytes, pre-B lymphocytes, granulocytes, and activated T lymphocytes.
Western Blot: non-reducing conditions.
Target Information
CD9 antigen is a glycoprotein expressed on the surface of developing B lymphocytes, platelets, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, stimulated T lymphocytes, and by neurons and glial cells in the peripheral nervous system.
CD9 belongs to the tetraspanin family, which transverses the membrane four times. It plays roles in:
- Cell activation and aggregation
- Cell motility, osteoclastogenesis, neurite outgrowth, myotube formation, and sperm-egg fusion
- Cell attachment and proliferation
- Association of heterologous MHC II molecules on dendritic cells for effective T cell stimulation
CD9 is involved in differentiation, adhesion, and signal transduction, and its expression plays a critical role in suppressing cancer cell motility and metastasis. It is considered a metastasis suppressor in solid tumors.
