This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of murine CD8α (32–34 kDa; alpha chain of the CD8 antigen).
Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family. It plays a key role in signal transduction and T cell differentiation and activation.
CD8 is mainly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer of CD8α and CD8β, functioning as a co-receptor with T cell receptor (TCR) for MHC class I molecules.
The CD8α chain is essential for binding to MHC-I and is also expressed on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells as CD8α homodimers.
Engagement of MHC-I/peptide complexes by CD8 triggers Lck kinase recruitment, leading to lymphokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are critical for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
