Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD86 (B7-2), a 70–80 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. CD86 is expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and activated B lymphocytes.
Functional Application: Blocking.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (the other being CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule in eliciting T-cell help during antigen presentation. In the absence of sufficient co-stimulation involving CD86/CD80, antigen presentation can induce tolerance. CD86 is a type I membrane protein and a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, expressed by antigen-presenting cells. It binds to CD28 antigen and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA4) on T cells.

  • Binding with CD28 provides a costimulatory signal for T-cell activation.
  • Binding with CTLA4 negatively regulates T-cell activation and diminishes immune response.

Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD86. Additional transcript variants have been described, though their full-length sequences remain undetermined.
Diseases associated with CD86 dysfunction include gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
