Product Specific Information
Recombinant rabbit Superclonal™ antibodies are unique offerings from Thermo Fisher Scientific. They consist of multiple recombinant monoclonal antibodies, combining the sensitivity of polyclonal antibodies with the specificity of monoclonal antibodies, and deliver consistent performance through recombinant production.
These antibodies recognize multiple epitope sites, providing higher detection sensitivity for low-abundance targets. Each lot contains a defined mixture of light and heavy chains, eliminating biological variability typical of polyclonal antibody production.
Note: Formerly called “Recombinant polyclonal antibody”, now rebranded as “Recombinant Superclonal™ antibody”. Product and performance remain unchanged.
Target Information
AFP (Alpha Fetoprotein) is a major plasma protein produced by the yolk sac, intestinal tract, and liver during fetal development. In adults, AFP expression is often associated with hepatoma or teratoma, though hereditary persistence may occur in healthy individuals.
AFP is considered the fetal counterpart of serum albumin, with both genes located in tandem on chromosome 4. It exists in monomeric, dimeric, and trimeric forms and binds to copper, nickel ions, fatty acids, and bilirubin.
AFP levels in amniotic fluid are used to screen for neural tube defects such as spina bifida and anencephaly. Elevated serum AFP is observed in hepatocellular carcinoma, teratoblastoma, colorectal, pancreatic, and germ cell cancers.
