Product Specific Information
This antibody can bind the human mesothelium, expressed on many cancer cells such as ovarian carcinoma.
Target Information
Mesothelin is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored, cell-surface glycoprotein predominantly secreted by cells of the mesothelium. It is expressed at restricted levels by normal mesothelial cells of the pleural, pericardial, and peritoneal membranes, but aberrant expression has been documented in various cancers including mesotheliomas, ovarian cystadenocarcinomas, pancreatic adenocarcinomas, endometrioid uterine adenocarcinomas, and squamous cell carcinomas of the esophagus, stomach, lung, and cervix.
Proteolytic cleavage of Mesothelin yields a soluble fragment called megakaryocyte potentiating factor (MPF), which stimulates megakaryocyte colony-forming activity. Both Mesothelin and MPF are implicated in tumorigenesis, promoting proliferation, migration, and metastasis.
