Target Information
Apoptotic signals are often triggered by cell surface death receptors through protein-protein interactions mediated by conserved domains such as the death effector domain.
DEDD2 is a novel DED-containing protein that induces moderate apoptosis and sensitizes cells to apoptosis induced by Fas, TRAIL, and FADD.
It binds caspase-8 and -10, and FLIP, but not FADD. DEDD2 translocates from cytosol to nucleus upon apoptosis induction, possibly targeting caspase-8 to the nucleus, playing a critical role in death receptor-induced apoptosis.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for DEDD2.
