Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which regulates various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This large intracellular PTP contains a catalytic domain at its C-terminus, five PDZ domains, and a FERM domain that binds to plasma membrane and cytoskeletal elements.
It interacts with and dephosphorylates Fas receptor and IκBα, suggesting a role in Fas-mediated apoptosis. Additionally, it interacts with GTPase-activating proteins, indicating a regulatory function in Rho signaling pathways.
Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct proteins have been reported.
