Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+). Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported — three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial) and two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
The NADP(+)-dependent cytoplasmic isozyme encoded by this gene is found in cytoplasm and peroxisomes, containing a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal sequence. It plays roles in NADPH regeneration for peroxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
