Target Information
Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF-beta superfamily that influence bone and cartilage formation. Mature BMPs are 30–38 kDa proteins with a TGF-beta-like cysteine knot structure. BMP-2 activation promotes bone formation and regulates stromal cell and osteoclast proliferation. BMPs also play roles in visceral development, cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and morphogenesis. They bind to type II receptors, recruiting type I receptors to activate the Smad signaling pathway.
