EPHA8는 단백질-티로신 키나아제 계열의 ephrin 수용체 서브패밀리에 속합니다. EPH 및 관련 수용체는 특히 신경계 발달 과정에서 발생하는 세포 간 접촉 매개 신호 전달에 관여합니다. EPHA8은 포유류 신경계 발달 중 축삭 유도(axonal guidance)에 중요한 역할을 합니다. EPH 수용체는 단일 키나아제 도메인과 시스테인 풍부 영역, 두 개의 fibronectin type III 반복을 포함한 세포외 영역을 가지며, ephrin-A 및 ephrin-B 리간드 결합 친화도에 따라 두 그룹으로 나뉩니다.
