EPHA8는 단백질 티로신 키나아제 계열의 ephrin 수용체 하위군에 속합니다. EPH 및 관련 수용체들은 특히 신경계 발달 과정에서 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. EPHA8은 포유류 신경계 발달 중 축삭 유도(axonal guidance)에 관여하며, 단일 키나아제 도메인과 Cys-rich 도메인 및 두 개의 fibronectin type III 반복 서열을 포함한 세포외 영역을 가지고 있습니다. Ephrin 수용체는 세포외 도메인 서열 유사성과 ephrin-A 또는 ephrin-B 리간드에 대한 결합 친화도에 따라 두 그룹으로 분류됩니다.
