Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays critical roles in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by glycogen synthase kinase 3, cyclin dependent kinase, ERK2, and JNK has been associated with cell proliferation and regulation.
Studies indicate that c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development. Deregulated expression of c-Myc induces apoptosis and contributes to oncogenesis in multiple tissue types.
Amplification or translocation of the c-Myc gene is linked to several human cancers, including lung, breast, colon carcinomas, and Burkitt’s lymphoma.
