Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

L1/ORF2 Antibody is directed against two regions within the endonuclease domain of L1 ORF2 protein. Reactivity occurs against human L1/ORF2 protein and is useful in determining its presence in various assays. BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with L1/ORF2 proteins from chimpanzee (100% homology) and from macaque, fruit fly, cattle, dog, opossum, and rat (69–88% homology).

Target Information

The L1 (LINE-1) or Long INterspersed Element retrotransposon ORF2 is a common open reading frame in the human genome, present in thousands of copies. This family includes magnesium-dependent endonucleases and phosphatases involved in intracellular signaling. Both ORF1 and ORF2 are required for autonomous retrotransposition. ORF2 encodes endonuclease, reverse transcriptase, and zinc knuckle domains. Its expression is tightly regulated except in germ line tissues, embryonic tissues, and certain cancers (teratomas, testicular cancers, leukemias). This antibody is intended for studying the control of L1 retrotransposons.
