Target Information
NOD1 is a member of the NOD (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain) family, which plays a key role in innate immune defense. It contains:
- An N-terminal caspase recruitment domain (CARD)
- A centrally located nucleotide-binding domain (NBD)
- Ten tandem leucine-rich repeats (LRRs) at the C-terminus
The CARD domain participates in apoptotic signaling and activation of caspase-9 and NF-κB. LRRs mediate protein-protein interactions, and mutations in the NBD can affect oligomerization and LRR function. NOD1 acts as an intracellular pattern-recognition receptor (PRR) that triggers inflammation in response to bacteria containing diaminopimelic acid.
