The eBioM3/38 (M3/38) antibody reacts with mouse Galectin-3 (Mac-2). Galectins are a family of animal lectins with diverse biological functions. Galectin 3 (LGALS3, Mac-2, L-29) is a 30 kDa β-galactoside-binding protein that binds IgE and mammalian cell surfaces when homodimerized or homo-oligomerized. It is expressed in epithelial tissues and inflammatory cells such as macrophages, dendritic cells, and Kupffer cells. Expression increases during inflammation, proliferation, differentiation, and viral trans-activation.

This monoclonal antibody crossreacts with human Galectin-3 (LGALS3).

Applications Reported: Suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Verified by flow cytometry on mouse bone marrow cells at ≤0.125 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Cell count range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Antibody titration recommended for optimal performance.

Target Information

Galactose-specific lectin that binds IgE and mediates endothelial cell migration via α3β1 integrin and CSPG4. Together with DMBT1, it is required for epithelial cell differentiation during embryogenesis. Acts as a pre-mRNA splicing factor in the nucleus. Involved in acute inflammatory responses, including neutrophil activation, monocyte chemoattraction, opsonization of apoptotic neutrophils, and mast cell activation.
