Target Information
The protein encoded by SLC7A7 is the light subunit of a cationic amino acid transporter. This sodium-independent transporter forms when the light subunit dimerizes with the heavy subunit SLC3A2.
It is expressed in epithelial cell membranes and mediates the transport of cationic and large neutral amino acids to the extracellular space.
Defects in this gene cause lysinuric protein intolerance (LPI).
Several transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
