Target Information
Olfactory receptors belong to the G-protein coupled receptor family. They interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses that trigger the perception of smell. These receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and mediate odorant signal transduction via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, and its nomenclature is species-specific.
