Target Information
MMP9 (Matrix Metallopeptidase 9, GELB, CLG4B) is a zinc and calcium-dependent endopeptidase that degrades extracellular matrix proteins.
- Secreted as a 92 kDa zymogen; active enzyme: 82 kDa
- Contains gelatin-binding, catalytic, proline-rich, and hemopexin-like domains
- Expressed by monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, keratinocytes, fibroblasts, osteoclasts, and endothelial cells
- Involved in inflammatory responses, tissue remodeling, wound healing, tumor growth, and metastasis
- Degrades type IV and V collagens
- Plays a role in IL-8-induced mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells and tumor-associated tissue remodeling
- Elevated MMP9 levels are associated with idiopathic atrial fibrillation and aortic aneurysm progression
